"Greenfest/EarthDay 2010"
We showcased our new solar division of Boz at Greenfest; held at Sussex County Community College in Newton.  We were among various other green and environmentally friendly businesses willing to educate the public on the many ways "going green" is easy and afforadble.  Project Manager Kris Bush was there to answer questions pertianing to solar as well as other energy efficiency products we offer.

Earthday held at Mountain Creek, Vernon NJ, was also a success as we were approached by Vernon residents seemingly interested in reducing their utility bill by installing solar panels on their roofs.  Below are some photos of our day including our exhibitor space, Bailey Bosma (John Bosma's niece), an LED lighting display and an up close view of a solar panel.

Meadowlands Rail Station: Take the Train!

Boz was excited upon completion of this extensive project which encompassed electrical distribution, emergency generators and Honeywell alarm systems in addition to 160 speakers, 6 amplifiers, 28 cameras, 13 double-sided passenger messaging signs and 2 jumbo LED messaging plaza signs.

 
Commissioned by the NJ Transit and NJ Sports and Exposition Authority, they set out to construct new roads, parking lots, bridges and railroads to improve vehicular access. This effort ultimately provides mass transportation from NJ and NY, eliminating congestion on highways and potentially offering parking space for commuters. Having completed similar train stations in Kearny, Ramsey and Mt. Arlington, NJ, Boz’s comfort level and knowledge behind such a vast project proved to be advantageous. “This project was completed with man power from local 164 and 102 working together seamlessly,” Bill Bosma, VP of Boz Electric and Project Manager on the job. “The workmanship is impeccable and everyone involved should be proud."

Reduce, Reuse Recycle!

With the construction of a 28,000 sq. foot Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) built in Sparta, NJ, recycling has become more manageable. The MRF saves space in our landfills, allowing for 400 tons of construction waste daily to be accumulated. Also saving time by encapsulating all recyclables in one vicinity; eliminating the need to separate material. The waste is then processed and transformed into usable product.

Teaming with general contractors T. M. Brennan Inc, construction of this facility began in 2007. Jim Hermes, T.M. Brennan, Project Manager on the job, “TMB hired Boz Electric to be part of the team to complete a 28,000 square foot concrete/steel building in Sparta, NJ called an MRF Building for Grinnell Recycling. This 13,000,000 lbs. building required attention to detail having huge motors to move and replace air 8 times an hour to 2000 amp grinders that would munch up 3’ trees in diameter. Boz Electric has come through for us many times and this time was no exception.”

The Road to Recovery: Planning, Real Estate and Development

John Bosma and Alyse DiBlasio attended a panel discussion hosted by The Society for the Marketing of Professional Services (SMPS) in hopes of gaining insight on New Jersey’s developmental and economic front. Michael Bozza, (Senior Manager for Real Estate Development-Port Authority NY/NJ), Marta Lefsky (President Economic Development Corp-Woodbridge Township), Carl Spataro (Director Dept of Economic and Business Development-Middlesex County) and Mathew Abraham (Senior Business Development Officer-NJEDA) and moderator Todd Poole (President- 4ward Planning). Each bringing to the table a unique approach to the topics at hand, it became apparent as the discussion unfolded that Middlesex County, and more specifically Woodbridge Township and the town of Hoboken are where efforts are being focused.

This area is geographically advantageous, some would say, engulfing mass forms of transportation to and from not only NJ cities but NYC as well. The location is valuable in and of itself; that can not be replicated in another town or county.
 

Moving forward to secure a stable economic and progressive future, the planning stages must be the premier focus. Woodbridge Township has recently developed a new master plan spanning the next 20 years. Constant pursuing of companies and businesses will hopefully drive occupants to the spaces available and ultimately bring in additional funds. Woodbridge alone is the number one building permit issuer in the state, proving its potential for growth and expansion. New Jersey continues on the road to recovery.

Be Prepared: Employee Safety

Does your business have a plan for dealing with a fire or other emergency situation in the workplace? If not, you may want to make the development of a plan one of this year’s priorities.

Because the safety of your employees is a primary concern, you should have an emergency action plan (EAP). The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has put together a helpful “Emergency Action Plan Checklist” that may prove helpful. It covers:

General issues. For example, the EAP should identify key contacts and provide an emergency communications system (e.g., a cellular phone) that will facilitate communication with the fire department, local law enforcement, or other emergency assistance.

Evacuation policy and procedure. Among other things, the EAP should outline specific evacuation routes and exits and designate the individual(s) authorized to order an evacuation.

Reporting emergencies and alerting employees. This component of the EAP identifies a preferred reporting method (for example, dial 911) and ensures that employees will recognize alarms or other signals to evacuate.

Employee training and drills. The EAP should cover how and when employees will be trained and when retraining will occur.

The checklist is included in an online tool osha.gov that allows small, low-hazard service and retail businesses to create their own EAPs.
